Pathlab is seeing an increase in the volume of Histology requests in the lead up to Christmas. As a result of this increased demand, the turnaround time for results has also increased.
The current turnaround time for routine samples is approximately 22 working days. This turnaround time is likely to increase over the coming weeks in the leadup to Christmas.
It is unlikely non-urgent community samples are sent to Pathlab from 27 November will be resulted prior to Christmas.
Marking the sample as urgent for any reason other than clinical, only puts more pressure on an already busy and stretched histology team. When placing an order for Histology, please consider the following when thinking about the urgency of the sample.
Please note that genuine urgent requests for clinical reasons will be prioritised. Any requests for urgent testing, other than for clinical reasons, only cause delays for samples that are truly urgent.
Please send any feedback to corinne.hill@pathlab.co.nz.
