The clinical diabetes specialist in primary care provides clinical mentorship and advice to the practice team in supporting patients with diabetes.
This is in the form of supervision at nurse led clinics, telephone support or virtual consultations via video link. Assistance is given with diabetes care plans and advice around medication management.

Kathy Knight, a clinical diabetes specialist, has many years experience in diabetes education and management and has worked in both the secondary and primary health care services over the years in the Waikato. She works closely with the diabetes nurses at Hauraki and National Hauora Coalition PHOs to coordinate the diabetes study days held regularly in the River Room at Pinnacle for practice nurses.
Kathy is available most days of the week apart from every second Friday.

Pinnacle MHN contract directly with Waikato community podiatrists to provide care for patients with diabetes who have had a foot check that determines they are high risk. This care is provided across the region.
