The 2024 Pinnacle Strategy describes our commitment to 'programmes and outreach activities that promote preventative measures, education and social support'.
With this statement as a guide, Aldrin Arguelles, Pinnacle district manager Waikato, along with his team, planned to develop more holistic / comprehensive services for whānau Māori, with the inclusion of a kaimanaaki role to the Pinnacle Child Health Team.
Bronwyn Dennis, kaimanaaki Waikato, joined Pinnacle in March 2024. This role is designed to be a navigator of manaakitanga, building trusting relationships with iwi, mana whenua and whānau and is modelled on aroha, values and respect.
Bronwyn works to support whānau to access and engage with both health and social services as appropriate to their needs and aspirations. Working alongside nurses with a particular focus on childhood immunisations, Bronwyn works to ensure each pēpi and their whānau are well supported by Pinnacle and other key services in their rohe/communities.
Supporting whānau to navigate the health system is one of the key aspects of Bronwyn’s role.
Bronwyn is now beginning to work alongside general practices to support their enrolled whānau who are struggling to access or engage with immunisation services. Working in partnership with whānau, Bronwyn supports whānau to address a range of unmet health and social needs, while also promoting and supporting access to immunisation services.
If you'd like to learn more about Bronwyn’s role, or your practice has patients you believe would benefit from kaimanaaki support, please contact either Catherine Tobin or Pam Rudolph to kōrero, details below.
